This is the case of Sh. Omar Abdullah who became the chief minister of union territory of J & K, after his political party national conference, along with congress party, got the highest electorate mandate, when his father Sh. Farooq Abdullah is the president of national conference. The question here is that he is this time crowned as the chief minister of J & K , when just five months back in June-2024, he lost the parliamentary elections badly to one Engineer Rashid, who was in jail for some sedition cases that time and is on bail this time. How do we justify it astrologically? It needs detailed analysis under the circumstances.
His dasha in June 2024 was Rahu /Saturn /Jupiter, when he lost the parliamentary election and his dasha now is Rah /Mercury / Mercury, when he won the assembly election and became the chief minister.
Astrological observations:-
Political Status?
7th lord in the 9th house is said to be bad for marriage mostly, but not for other vital facets of life. It indicates foreign settlements, having name, fame and wealth. It also means that one can become a cult leader, if the 7th lord is in the 9th house in association with a yoga karka planet, lagna lord and Jupiter. In the present case, the 7th lord Saturn is associated with the 9th lord Mars, which is equally a “Yoga-Karaka” planet for this lagna. This combination has the aspect of Jupiter the 5th lord from the 3rd house. That is the case here as this birth chart pertains to person who is a prominent leader of a political party and has remained as a Chief Minister of a State of India, apart from having remained as a minister in the union cabinet of India also. Saturn being debilitated as the 7th lord and Mars being close to “Mrityu-Bhagya”, this planetary position has become quite weak for him to retain his political power perpetually. He has faced so may breaks in his political career so far.
Lagna lord Sun is in the 7th house, which is the 10th house from the 10th house, when Sun is the planet of royalty. It shows his glorified position as a royal figure. Lagna lord Sun is aspecting the lagna is also a major factor for his early rise in life, which gets supplemented and augmented by the presence of Mercury the 2nd and the 11th lord with the lagna lord Sun in the 7th house, making a good dhana yoga, aspecting lagna.
This combination is further glorified by the aspect of Jupiter the 5th lord from the 3rd house. Jupiter’s aspect on the lagan lord Sun, the 9th house and the 9th lord Mars is a very good combination of the lagna lord, the 5th lord and the 9th lord, constituting a very good “Raja-Yoga”. Jupiter is also making a “Gaje-Kesari Yoga”, with Moon, along the 3/9 axis, which shows enough urge and potential to rise in life through self-strife, when he could not maintain his political prowess and power fully , as the Moon is the 12th lord. Equally the bottleneck here is the presence of the debilitated 7th lord Saturn in this axis. Jupiter’s role is partially curbed to bestow enough of favor as it is retrograde and is aspected by debilitated Saturn the 7th and the 6th lord. 10th lord Venus is exalted and is in the 8th house, which is the 11th house from the 10th house. It shows 8th house significations denoting sudden rise in career and with a nose dive fall too. He became Chief Minister of J & K State for the first time, when he was abruptly selected for the post.
“ Chamatkar – Chintamani”, mentions that Sun in the 7th house shows strained relations with his wife, diseased, mentally tense, rivalry with other people. It says, Sun in Aquarius sign may make a person debauchee. But equally it mentions that Sun in the 7th house in Aquarius sign , gives a person highest education, is an expert on administration and law and has few children.
The combination of the Mars and Moon constitutes a good “Chandra-Mangla” yoga, which is good for one’s prosperity of sorts, yet its value is reduced with the presence of debilitated Saturn, when Moon is the 12th lord in this combination. Saturn and Mars are in “Neecha-Bhanga” yoga and having an aspect of the 5th lord Jupiter from the 3rd house. But the aspect of Jupiter is not so promising being retrograde and hardly spare from its damages.
The Moon chart is giving a clear picture about his political rise and career. As per Moon chart, Moon is the fourth lord (seat of power) with the lagna lord Mars and the tenth lord Saturn, receiving the aspect of Jupiter the 9th lord placed in the Kendra. Moon chart fully justifies the role of Moon, Mars and Saturn in elevating him to the political power from time to time. The aspect of Saturn on the 10th house shows the political link and career. Aspect of lagna lord Mars placed in lagna itself on the 4th house shows fortification of the seat of power ( singhasana). Sun as the 5th lord in the 11th house is another pointer in this regard, which is also aspected by Jupiter the 9th lord. Mars and Moon constitute a very good ‘Chandra-Yoga’, in lagna involving two Kendra lords. It constitutes a good dhana-yoga, as also good Rajya-Yoga, good for prosperity, honor name and fame. Gajekesari yoga is also getting constituted along the 1/7 axis, involving a kona lord and a Kendra lord. It is thus a very good RajyaYoga. Mars and Saturn are in Neecha-Bhanga yoga, limiting the debilitated status of Saturn. But it is seen that the debilitated planet does not spare from delivering the bad effects and damages as per its significations. He rose in his political career no doubt, but with appropriate bad dasha linked to debilitated Saturn, he had to face humiliations too.
He was sworn as the Chief Minister of J& K State on 5th January, 2009. The dasha was Moon/Venus/Mercury. Moon chart is giving a clear picture about this dasha sequence, of his becoming the Chief Minister at a young age. Moon is the 4th lord signifying ‘ singhasana’, the seat of power, with Mars the lagna lord in lagna, aspected by Jupiter as the 9th lord from the 7th house. Moon is being glorified, being aspected by Jupiter constituting ‘Gajekesari-Yoga’. It is a combination of the Kendra lord and the kona lord, which is a very good ‘Raja-Yoga’. Mars as the lagna lord is aspecting the 4th house, as also the 9th lord Jupiter. This combination signifies the attainment of power, respect and honor, through Moon. Since Saturn is also associated with it, which is asepcting the 10th house as the 10th lord it confirms attainment of political power. Venus as the antar dasha lord in this chart is the 7th lord, viz, 10th to 10th house, ‘Bhavat-Bhavam, thus akin to bestow this favor. Mercury as the 3rd lord, the lord of the house of efforts, is in the 11th with Sun the 5th lord, indicating honor, respect and success, aspected by Jupiter the 9th lord, confirms the attainment of such a position. He becomes the Chief Minister. Since Saturn as 10th lord is debilitated and the aspect of Jupiter is a retrograde one, he had to face lot of problems during his tenure as chief Minister and finally could not maintain this posture in the next elections. Similarly, Venus the antar dasha lord which is the 7th lord though exalted, but is in the 12th house in a bad exchange with Jupiter, signifies lot of problems during his tenure as Chief Minister.
In the D-9 chart, Moon is the 9th lord and is again placed with the Mars which is the lagna lord here and is placed in the eighth house. Since it is a combination in the 8th house, he had to face lot of problems during his tenure as Chief Minister. Venus the antar dasha lord is the tenth lord placed in the eighth house and is exalted, shows a sudden boost for him through the eighth house significations. Mercury the p.antar dasha lord is placed in the seventh house (tenth to tenth house) with the lagna lord Sun forming good dhanna yoga. Mercury is placed in the fourth house in the D-9 chart as the eleventh lord and is aspecting the tenth house of that chart. So the role of Mercury is getting justified.
Period of Turmoil?
Barring some initial months of comfort after taking over as the Chief Minister of the state, he had to face enough of challenges in the matters of administration of proper governance in the state. Protests by the pro freedom leaders became predominant, apart from protests by the general masses of the valley of Kashmir about the human rights violations by the security forces. Alleged charges of rape and murder of the two young women in the district of Shopian in Kashmir valley by the security forces took the shape of an extra ordinary violence last year. The present volatile situation in different places in the valley of Kashmir forced the administration to impose curfew and even ask for the flag march by the Indian Army at the troubled spots. All these disturbing issues must have kept the young Chief Minister on toes. Let us analyze it astrologically.
All this happened during the dasha periods of Moon/Sun and Mars/Mars, Mars/Rahu, Mars/Jupiter and Mars/Saturn viz, the periods from 3/2009 to January-2013. It is seen here that both the dash lord and the antar dasha lords are directly linked to the debilitated Saturn either through association or being the dispositor. This period was a period of extreme agony for him as the Chief Minister when at occasions his government too was at stake. Here the role of the debilitated planet comes into play. In the entire dasha period of Mars he was almost tense, as Mars is in ‘Mritu-Bhagya’ and in association with the debilitated Saturn. His party lost the elections in 2014, and he had to limit himself to the role of the leader of opposition only, when he himself lost the elections. This was followed by the Rahu main period, when dispositor of Rahu is Saturn, which is debilitated.
In the intervening nights of 4th and 5th August, 2020, he was placed under preventive detention by the Indian government under Section 107 of CRPC. This came as a backdrop to the decision of the government of India to abrogate Article 370 of the Constitution of India. Rahu/Jupiter/Jupiter. The dispositor of Rahu placed in the 7th house is debilitated Saturn, placed in the 9th house. Rahu’’s role is coming through the debilitated Saturn to confine him to preventive detention, as Saturn is the 6th lord as well. Jupiter the antar dasha period and the p.antar dasha period has again a link to being the 8th lord and being aspected by debilitated Saturn, which is the 6th lord as well. It is also aspect by the 12th lord Moon signifying jail like situation. Since Jupiter is involved, he was kept in custody in an official guest house.
After the expiry of the six months, without any charge of offence against him, he has been freshly charged and detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA). This has happened around the last week of January 2020. The dasha was Rahu/Jupiter / Saturn. The role of debilitated Saturn is again coming in to picture when the p.antar period is of Saturn which is debilitated. Pratya Antar period matters a lot in astrological dash periods. So he got a bigger jolt by being booked under PSA, which was a long battle for him to fight.
2024 – Parliamentary Elections:-
He lost parliamentary elections in June 2024, when the dasha was Rahu / Saturn /Jupiter. The planetary position is not conducive as the dispositor of Rahu which is Saturn is debilitated and does not have any benefic assistance from the antar dasha lord Saturn and the p. antar dasha lord Jupiter. Saturn though a Kendra lord, yet is the 6th lord too. It is debilitated and is with its enemy Mars. It is with the 12th lord Moon that has made its position more vulnerable for becoming more malefic. Jupiter the 3rd level dasha lord though being the 5th lord is having a malefic aspect of debilitated Saturn and the 12th lord Moon from the 9th house. Jupiter is the depositor of the 10th lord Venus, which is in the 8th house, in the sign of Jupiter. While Jupiter is the 8th lord too, there is a malefic exchange known as “ Dhaniya- Yoga”, between the 3rd lord Venus and the 8th lord Jupiter. This has compounded the malefic status of Jupiter as for as its role as p.antar dasha lord is concerned.
In the D-9, Rahu’s dispositor Jupiter has the malefic aspect of Saturn and Mars when Mars is in the 8th house. Saturn though well placed in the 9th house, but its dispositor Moon is in the 8th house with Mars which is the 6th lord apart from being the lagna lord in the 8th house. The position of Jupiter has already been explained.
2024- Assembly Elections:-
Assembly elections have been held in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir after a long break, Jammu and Kashmir was made a union territory now and Ladakh separated from it. Under such conditions, the role of the chief minister is very much limited and curtailed. Omar Abdullah won the elections and became the chief minister with the support of congress and other 4 independent assembly members, when as the chief minister his powers are very much limited and curtailed. The dasha was Rahu / Mercury / Mercury. It is not a big success for him as he is now the CM of a union territory when he has almost no powers to rule with authority.
The dasha is justifying it. Since the main dasha lord is Rahu, when its depositor Saturn is debilitated, yet, it is with Sun the lagna lord which is a royal planet, to bestow some good authority and honor. But this royal favor is very much limited, as the depositor Saturn is debilitated and with its enemy Mars and 12th lord Moon. This role of the main dasha of Rahu is supplemented by the antar and p.antar dasha lord Mercury, which is the 11th lord in the 7th house with Sun the planet of royalty, increasing the royal strength of Sun. Mercury is the 2nd lord as well making it a dhana yoga with the Sun in the 7th house aspecting the lagna. The position of Mercury is good in the D-9 and D-10 charts too. Rahu and Mercury has the aspect of Jupiter the 5th lord from the 3rd house showing support from his allies, like the congress party and some independent MLA’s, etc. In fact it is the anta and the p.antar dashas of Mercury which has boosted his destiny to make him the chief minister but with curtailed authority and powers. How long will it work under the prevailing dasha sequences shall have to be watched. Rahu / Mercury / Venus, Rahu / Mercury / Moon, Rahu / Mercury / Mars etc, can be disturbing periods, for him, when he may face problems in his governance as CM. ultimately he may have to quit.
Oath taking Omar Abdullah as CM. DOB-16-10-2024, TOB- 11:35 Hrs, POB- Srinagar, Kashmir

Lagna is dual sign, which is not favorable. Lagna lord is in the 6th house, thus not a good position. 4th house which represents the seat of power “ Singhasana’ has 8th lord Moon in it with Rahu thus highly afflicted. 8th lord Moon is also aspecting the 10th house, the seat of cabinet, where Sun the 9th lord, the lord of “ Bhagya” is placed with Ketu, thus afflicting both the destiny and the seat of governance. Though the Nakhshtara and the other parameters are partially good but the astrological promise of this oath taking chart is very much poor. It shows that the government will hardly be able to perform and continue.
