Ketu  in the 5th house

By:-  Er. P.L.Khushu

Mostly it is said that   presence of Ketu  in the 5th house , gives a  problem for the progeny of a person.  Classic books on astrology have various versions about it, yet, mostly every such book mentions that  there may be a problem with  one’s progeny   under such circumstances of Ketu  being in the 5th house. But it may not be always so, under other benefic conditions of the 5th house or  its lord or when  the 5th house is observed  from Jupiter. Then D-9 Chart and the D-7 chart will have enough relevance in this regard. Similarly the conditions of the Bija — suputha in the case of males and Kshtre-suputha in the case of females   will also be a prominent factor in this regard.

Before deliberating upon it more, some of the observations of the classic books in this regard are briefly mentioned below:- ,

  1.  Chamatkar Chintamani,

Ketu in the 5th house signifies deep past-life knowledge, detachment from worldly gains, potential issues with children, good intelligence, spiritual depth, often leading to an intuitive, secretive nature,  but also profound insight into occult or spiritual matters.  Trouble  to  off springs or their sudden and violent destruction, or meeting some adversities, or being disobedient may be the result as well.   It may mean more daughters than sons. The coborns   of the person may have danger and trouble from arms and ammunition.  It may mean disputes with brothers and sisters also.  Complaints of digestive nature of the stomach are also indicated with such a placement of Ketu. Physical pains and sufferings through one’s own misunderstandings, and wrong notions are also indicated.  Ketu being placed in Leo, Sagittarius, Pisces or Scorpio, indicates its good placements showing  its positions like “ Raja-Yoga”.

  • Mansagari

Ketu’s presence in  5th house will give a person trouble from brothers who  will cause damage to him. One will suffer from the windy diseases of the stomach and digestion. One will have limited children and may become a victim of one’s own lack of  prudence. A person will be quite proficient in many vocations, when one will spend his life in working for others.

  • Phaladeepika:-

Ketu in the 5th house destroys children  and may result in premature births of children. A person will suffer from stomach ailments and abdomen disorder. One will perceive trouble from the evil spirits. A person will perform his work perfectly and will be possessing good knowledge. May be possessing agitating  mind and outlook.

  • Jatkabharnam:-

Ketu in the 5th house can give wounds in the stomach or a person may suffer from windy diseases of digestion.  A person may have to undergo surgery in such events of stomach ailments and may have trouble from falling from higher places.   One has few children, more daughters than sons, or some trouble to one’s   off springs. A person is wealthy, strong and vigorous. A person may take decisions in haste.

Classic books as such   while mentioning about the placement of Ketu in the 5th house mostly lay stress on three issues due this placement of Ketu in the 5th house, while mentioning about  the results of Ketu in the 5th house.  These are:-

  1. May result in spiritual growth in a person, with enough of knowledge and tendencies  for   detachments from worldly materialism.

2.   Less or no progeny, or some problems on account of one’s progeny which can be varied in nature, mostly concerns about the growth and the health of one’s children. It may equally mean that a person may not be having enough comforts from the progeny.

3.    Digestive ailments sometimes leading to serous situations  of medical surgery  that may get involved.

4.       Conflicts with co-borns, or no co- borns, or some major problems to co-borns.

In interpreting the results of Rahu and Ketu some exceptions have been made in some  classic books of astrology books which are shown below.

  1. The aspect of Jupiter on Rahu and Ketu, lends to them a strong protective cover to give good results. ( I have  found it generally working well).
  2.   In the case of Rahu and Ketu especially as is the case of other planets, the theory of dispositors is applied. For example if Rahu is in Aries sign,  see where  its lord is Mars is from the lagna.
  3.  Rahu and Ketu from an axis in every horoscope. Each axis has a significance of its own. It is both a matter of controversy, dispute and bewilderment among astrologers.  Deep researches have to be done as Rahu and Ketu hide in their bosom many mysteries of very deep nature.

In the light of the above observations and taking into  account the subtler role of planets in to considerations for predictive purposes,   it is impliedly necessary to keep following astrological points in view while arriving at the astrological conclusions of the quantum of malefic impact on the progeny of a person, while Ketu is placed in the 5th house.

  1. Locate the rashi in which the Ketu is placed in the 5th house. It will make a vast difference in arriving at some logical conclusions in regard to the good or bad  effects of Ketu in the 5th house  upon the progeny of a person.  Ketu   placed in Leo, Sagittarius, Pisces or Scorpio, indicates its good placement showing its good positions in the 5th house.
  2. Locate the position of the planets placed with Ketu in the  5th house. If it is a benefic association it may augur well for the progeny oif a person.  If it is a malefic association it may result in adverse position for the progeny of a person.
  3. Locate the position of the placement of the dispositor ( Bavish), of Ketu, from lagan   it  will be another deciding factor in this regard. If it is placed in Kendra or Kona, it will augur well. If it is placed in the  6th, 8th or the 12th house,  it can  give adverse results.
  4. Locate the association of the dispositor of Ketu in other houses with benefic or malefic planets. With benefic association it will give favorable results and with a malefic association it may give adverse results.
  5. Locate the planetary aspects on the 5th house, 5th lord  and Ketu placed in it. If these aspects are benefic in nature it can augur well. In particular if such an aspect is of Jupiter it will be considered as a favorable aspect, particularly if Jupiter is a Kendra or a Kona lord.   If such planetary aspects are malefic in nature, it may produce adverse results.
  6. Locate the position of the 5th house and its lord  from the Jupiter too. If it is in a benefic situation in all respects, the adverse effects of Ketu in the 5th house on the progeny of a person will get mitigated to a large extent. If it is in a malefic situation the adverse effects upon the progeny of a person will get compounded.
  7. Locate   the position of the Ketu and the  5th lord of  the D-1 chart  from the D-9 Chart as well. If these are placed well and in a better position like being in Kendra or Kona  with a good benefic associations, it will augur well for the progeny of a person.  If such placements are of malefic nature with malefic palmary associations it may produce adverse situations for the progeny of a person.
  8. Locate the status of D-7 Chart which relates to the progeny of a person, in regard to the lagan and its lord of  the D-7 Chart. If these are in a benefic situation it will augur well for the progeny of a person.  If these are in a malefic situation it may result in an adverse situation for the progeny of a person.  Ascertain the position of the 5th house and its lord and Ketu in D-7 chart. If these are in benefic positions it may augur well for the progeny of a person.  Under malefic conditions these will produce adverse situations for the progeny of a person.
  9. Above all locate the position of the “ Bija — Suputha in the case of males and Kshtre-Suputha”  in the case of females, which will be equally a major astrological factor to see the overall conditions of the progeny  of a person, due to the placement of Ketu in the 5th house, liable to produce adverse effects on one’s progeny as per astrological norms.  If these are placed in benefic positions, the quantum of adverse results will be reduced to a larger extent. if these are placed in malefic positions the quantum of adverse  malefic results will be compounded.
  10. Equally locate the position of the lagan and the lagan lord, which will ensure the overall strength of the birth chart to resist any adverse situation which will apply to one’s progeny too.

>>>>It needs a mention here that  spiritual guru’s who adopt celibacy are mostly having Ketu in the 5th house of their birth charts.

The example cases are of Sh.  Aurobindo, George Bernard Shah, Sh. Jai Prakash Narayan, Yogi Bhaskaranand Ji , etc.
