Mundane astrology is that branch of astrology which deals with the worldly events, like wars, natural calamities like floods, earthquakes, famines, plagues, epidemics, pandemics, communal and religious rites and conflicts, major political events, etc. The word Mundane has been derived from the Sanskrit word ‘Medini’.
In mundane astrology the conjunction of slow moving and heavy planets is extremely important. These indicate the turning points in the history of nations. The conjunction of planets like Saturn- Rahu, Saturn-Jupiter, Saturn-Mars, Mars-Jupiter, Jupiter-Rahu, Jupiter-Ketu and the like has great significations in astrology in respect of major events occurring world over, during such conjunctions, particularly when augmented by the eclipses of Sun and Moon within a fortnight, that occurs before the occurrence of such major events which are mostly disastrous. Some of eventful happenings due to such conjunctions of planets across the world:-

Only a sketchy scenario is given above for such types of conjunctions of major planets because of shortage of space, when there are numerous instances which can be quoted for such major events across the world and in India, due to such conjunctions of planets.
Coming to the present situation of the world due to corona Virus, the conjunction of Jupiter-Ketu, which began in November-2019, in Sagittarius Rashi, when Saturn was already placed there, followed by a solar eclipse in December 2091, the cause of Corona Virus has been an offshoot of such a combination . Jupiter moved from Sagittarius rashi to Capricorn rashi on 30th March-2020, delinking itself from Ketu, when Saturn had already moved from Sagittarius rashi to Capricorn rashi, on 24th of January 2020. Mars joined Ketu on 7th Febrauary-2020, making another adverse position due to Mars-Keu conjunction, when Saturn had already moved out of Sagittarius. It added more ammunition to the combination of Jupiter and Ketu.
Conjunction of Jupiter and Ketu is supposed to cause serious infectious diseases. It is after the conjunction of Jupiter and Ketu on 4th November, when the first case of corona virus was reported in China in Wuhan. Eclipses play a great role as per mundane astrological parameters in national and international happenings. The solar eclipse which occurred on 26th December-2019 turned the corona virus into an epidemic. Normally a common solar eclipses should not be any major problem, but this solar eclipse was not a common solar eclipse, as on that day of solar eclipse, the six planets, Sun, Moon, Saturn, Mercury, Jupiter and Ketu were together thus the impact of eclipse was intensified turning Corona Virus into a major pandemic.

Out of the frying pan into fire?
Mars moved to Capricorn rashi on 22nd of March, 2020, when Saturn was already there, making a dreadful combination of two most malefic planets of solar system. Jupiter too joined this combination on 30th of March-2020, when the position of Jupiter is very weak being debilitated. This combination of Saturn and Mars ignited the Corona Virus position to a dangerous status and it spread very fast affecting the people across the globe in great numbers. The deaths due to the spread of Corona Virus also became innumerable across the world. Fortunately the causalities in India have been comparatively lesser, as compared to USA, Italy, UK, Iran etc. It is probably due to the strict implementation of social distancing and observing of ‘Lock-Down’ very seriously.
It’s Impact in India?
Distress :- As per mundane astrology the relevant Chaitra Shukla Pratipada chart of the year, viz, the new year chart based on lunar calendar, along with Mesha Sankrati Chart , are to be studied to find the possible effects of Corona Virus on the nation, when India too is battling against the spread of Covid-19, along with its effects on its people’s health and welfare, its economy, national development, which includes all the facets of national progress. By putting the Chaitra Shukla Pratipada Chart of the year 2020, on India’s Independence chart it is observed as under:-
It is seen that while putting the Chaitra Shukla Pratipada Chart of the year 2020, on India’s Independence chart, the Saturn and Mars combination is afflicting and maligning almost all the major planets Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Saturn, representing different houses with varied significations of India’s strategic existence and growth, when the natal Jupiter too is receiving an aspect of Saturn, which is a bad malefic aspect. The malefic influence of Rahu/ Ketu axis on the Gemini sign is again a very bad position. It appears to be a year of acute distress almost on all fronts involving people’s health and the conditions of national development and governance, national exchequer, national income, national economy and national growth. First possible respite will be when Mars moves out of Capricorn sign, which will occur on 4th May- 2020. There should be some relief from 5th May-2020, onwards, when the situation will start improving after that date.
Silver Lining:-
Mars being the King of the year designated as per Chaitra Shukla Pratipada Chart of the year 2020, which means lot of distress and anguish for the year on all fronts, yet, there is a silver lining too, as the ‘Minister’ for the year as per ‘Mesha-Sankrati’ chart, ( solar ingress in mesha rashi), is Moon , which s very good for the year and the damaging effects of Mars will be reduced to a greater extent with Moon being the ‘Minister’ for the year. It speaks about a healthier position for India in all respects, thus balancing the evil effects of mars for the country.
The other possible impacts of Saturn and Mars conjunction can be that there can be strong retaliatory military actions by India against our neighbor for its acts of proxy war through protracted terrorist acts and misadventures.
There can be possible disputes with prominent neighboring countries like China, when India will mostly boycott and limit its import of goods from China to a greater extent, resulting in major bottlenecks in India’s relationships with China. India will open new channels of foreign direct investments with new entities, in the fields of IT industry, automobile industry, small and medium scale industrial growth products, including taking big leaps towards establishing a solid base for a good industrial development. Though the bottlenecks due to financial constraints will be there, but with a proper and sound planning India will overcome such bottlenecks. The opposition parties will try to create hurdles in all the developmental activities of the nation but they will all be dealt with a strong hand. Communal passions can get aroused by the antinational bodies, but all these attempts will be crushed with an iron hand.
A broader outcome that can be foreseen is that India will have to face a lot of problems ahead which will continue for most part of the year when a respite from Corona can be expected from 5th May 2020 onwards, when Mars will get detached from Saturn and move to Aquarius. But Jupiter will be in retrograde motion from 14th May 2020 and will be back in Sagittarius rashi on 1st July 2020 in retrograde condition, which will not be good as Jupiter will again come under the influence of Rahu/ Ketu. Jupiter will be direct in Sagittarius on 13th of September 2020. Similarly the retrograde motion of Saturn in Capricorn will start from 11th May-2020, and Saturn will be in direct motion (Margi), on 29th of September-2020. Retrogression of both Saturn and Jupiter till Setember-2020, is not a good sign, as it will impede the recovery from the Corona Virus onslaught and other pro poor measures of the government, yet the main obstacle of Saturn –Mars combination is already over by 4th may, 2020, which shows the start of relief and slowing down of the impact of Corona Virus. The period from 1st June-2020, till July- 2020, can be again not be good for international issues and some domestic problems like religious disturbances etc. But it is sure that this period will mean new trade treaties with other countries. There may be some new enactments through parliament legislations for the welfare of the people. Rahu will move to Taurus from Gemini on 26th of September-2020, when Ketu will go to Scorpio on this date as well. It will be a big relief when the medicine for Corona Virus will most probably be invented when Ketu will be in Scorpio. After September-2020, the situation must improve in all respects and there will be a lot of respite from this epidemic
